Frederick Marshall
Fine Metals Studio, and Special Topics Department Head
Email: finemetals@petersvalley.org |
Bio:
Rick has been a Department Head at Peters Valley since 1998, prior to which
he was an Artist in Residence/Program Coordinator (also at Peters Valley) since 1991. He
has been the recipient of both a National Endowment/Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Visual
Arts Fellowship in 1989-1990 as well as a New Jersey State Council for the Arts Crafts
Fellowship, which he recieved in 1982, 1990 and 1993. Rick is currently an Adjunct
Assistant Professor of Art at Montclair State University.
Artist Statement:
"My work deals with personal visions/dreams that embody the spirits of a
forgotten past or a unknown future. Fusing and patination implies the presence of time and
creates a dialogue between human construction and natural decay. My intent is to evoke a
emotional response to the work; that is familiar, and at the same time alien, of
indeterminate age.
I work in jewelry; as well as sculptural and functional metal work,
but my real interest is making things that have several, if not many different uses."
