LAYTON, NJ: The Water Gap Woodturners is a new Local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
The first meeting will be on Wednesday, March 12th, at the Wood Studio at Peters Valley Craft Center (PVCC), Layton, NJ. Participants are encouraged to bring a sample of their work. Meetings start at 7pm and usually end at 10pm.
From there onward, meeting are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month at the Wood Studio. This AAW chapter will give opportunity for turners to meet like-minded folks.
The idea to formulate a local AAW chapter came after a successful introduction to Woodturning during the summer workshops at PVCC. Interest was so great that Butler has laid the ground work for this chapter to grow. "All ideas and suggestions are welcomed," say Butler, "I truly hope this grows in numbers." Turners, regardless of skill level, are encouraged to come out and meet other turners; to learn other/new turning techniques and to share their own favorite techniques.
While Butler was awaiting approval on the new local chapter of AAW, he added nine new One-Way Lathes to the Wood Studio facility at PVCC, so more workshops could be offered. Upcoming guest instructors are nationally recognized artist including Beth Ireland, Graeme Priddle, Mark St. Leger, Michael Mocho, and Mark Sfirri, who are all scheduled to teach this summer season of 2008.
