Date: July 20 – 24, 2012 (5 Days)
Instructor: John Dix
Level: Beginner and Beyond
Class Description: In this workshop participants will learn how to build a small fast fire wood kiln based on the Brodnax backfire kiln design. The beauty of this kiln design is the scale that provides ceramic artists the opportunity to experiment and develop wood firing techniques without the large scale operation that larger more traditional wood kilns demand. The kiln will be constructed in the first days of the workshop and fired as many times as possible within the workshop schedule. You will learn from John’s experience as a ceramic artist living and working in Japan and his extensive wood firing experience. John will demonstrate his working techniques throughout.
Instructor Bio: John Dix is an American potter who has been working in Japan for over 20 years. He fires an anagama/noborigama hybrid 2 or 3 times a year, and exhibits internationally.
