Level: Advanced Beginner and Beyond
Class Description: This class will explore the techniques necessary to create small vessels and turned boxes. Participants will make their own tools enabling them to turn a variety of shapes. The class will cover Boxes, hollow vessels, tool making, design and surface techniques. Sharpening and safety will also be the focus of the week with the talented Beth Ireland.
Instructor Bio: Beth Ireland received her undergrad degree from SUCB buffalo, and her MFA from Mass College of Art and Design. Her work ranges from traditional woodworking to conceptual art. She has taught at a variety of schools such as, The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, Arrowmont, Anderson Ranch, Peters Valley, Mass College of Art and Design, and Miami University. Her work includes small objects to her latest one-year project called Turning Around America. Her work has been published in Fine Woodworking Design Book Seven, The Boston Globe, and American Woodturner. She can be seen in two episodes of "Cultivating Life" made for PBS. Her Video called "Turning Outside the Box" was produced in 2005.
