Class Description: Discover the design possibilities by learning how to dye and weave ikat rugs. We will begin with design principles for ikat and will dye skeins of wool yarn in a spontaneous manner using some traditional resist methods and much dipping and re-dyeing. When we are pleased with our yarns we will warp the looms, 5 epi with sturdy linen and will practice weaving techniques with the dyed wool and then weave a plain weave ikat rug. Once the project is complete you will have a rug, sturdy enough for the floor or dynamic enough to hang on the wall! Instructor Bio: Connie Enzemann-Forneris grew up in a very creative atmosphere, with a strong Bauhaus sense, inherited from her architect father. She holds a BS in Craft Studies from Iowa State University, an MFA in fibers from Southern Illinois University, is a graduate of the 4 year Feldenkrais Training Program in Santa Fe, NM and continuing studies in Germany and throughout the USA. For over 30 years she has sold her work through galleries and craft shows in the USA and she continues to learn and research designs, she has taught all over the country sharing her techniques.
