As the summer approaches, there is so much to do!

Plan many visits to Peters Valley. Start the season on a festive note by helping us celebrate Bevans Day and our annual Open House on Sunday, May 4th. Coinciding with the Open House is a new Exhibition: Delaware Highlands 7, featuring the artwork of the Delaware region's finest artisans.

Then, the Workshop season begins... Whether you are a novice in your chosen craft or a seasoned professional, Peters Valley has a workshop for you. May 17th and 18th is the beginners weekend. The workshops will jump into full-swing quickly. Some classes are already filled-to-capacity. If you haven't already signed up for the workshop of your choice, be sure to do so soon... www.petersvalley.org.

The Summer Youth Art Program is back for the summer of 2008!

Save the Arts! We all need to get involved in this endeavor. We have provided the sources and information you need to have your voice heard. These cutbacks will affect us all.

We would encourage you to utilize them yourself. Simply download them, edit them as you feel appropriate, and print for mailing.

Youth Art Program will run again in 2008!

Youth Art Camp is scheduled through the month of July. Instructors for the first three weeks are Suzanne Werfelman for children ages 6-11, and Liz Pemberton will have the 12 - 16 year olds. The cost is $165 per week (July 7, 14 & 28, each) with no lab fees.

The week of the 28th will feature the Fibers and the Ceramics Concentration for children 10 & up. The cost is $165 with a $20 lab fee.

Peters Valley Receives Prestigious State Arts Award

Peters Valley Craft Center received a Citation of Excellence from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for excellence in artistic quality, programming and public service in the arts.

To present the Citation and acknowledge the importance of the work of Peters Valley, State Arts Council leadership was joined by Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells and members of the New Jersey State Legislature at the State House Annex on March 13, 2008.

“Citations of Excellence conferred by the Council are a signal to funders, audiences, peers and others that these organizations and projects are among the very best in our state,” noted Carol Ann Herbert, chair of the State Arts Council.

Carol Ann Herbert, chair of the State Arts Council, noted that “A Majors designation by the Council indicates that an arts group stands among the organizations statewide which comprise our anchor institutions that contribute vitally to the quality of life in New Jersey.”

This award, among the State Arts Council’s most prestigious marks of distinction, is conferred to grant applicants receiving the highest peer panel evaluation through the grant application process.

The Delaware Highlands Seven exhibition will highlight seven exceptional artists in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York areas which border on the Delaware River.

We are lucky to live in an area so rich in talent and artistic diversity and Peters Valley is proud to put a spotlight on our region’s best.

Slated to coincide with the ever popular annual Open House/Bevans Day

Opening Reception will be held in the second floor Sally D. Francisco Gallery from 12-6pm.

Peters Valley will be represented once again at this exciting event on Saturday, April 26th. Come one and come all to Princeton's Communiversity event.

In the past, Peters Valley has had an impressive presence at this event through literature, personal contact, artisan displays, craft demonstrations, and we have found it to be a wonderful way to reach our potential audience to bring in new members, encourage workshops, residencies, the Youth Art Program and other Peters Valley events. If you are available come to Princeton and see us! Stop by and chat, sign up for your summer workshops, and just enjoy the Arts in NJ through this community outreach program.
