Peters Valley School of Craft
Summer Studio Assistantship Program
Summer 2014– Application Deadline: April 1, 2014
Peters Valley Summer Studio Assistants are an integral part of the summer workshop program. They assist studio managers, visiting instructors and students during workshops and are responsible for studio maintenance.
The program is open to emerging artists, age 18 and older. Knowledge of studio operations and equipment is required.
While PV seeks assistants who can participate for the entire summer (mid-May through the first week of September); we will accept applications for shorter periods. A minimum stay of four weeks is required.
Summer assistants are responsible for maintenance of studio equipment, set-up for workshops and clean-up after workshops, under the direction of the Studio Manager. Assistants are present and provide support in the studio throughout the workshop including monitoring most evening open studio hours.
In the event a workshop is cancelled, the assistant will provide 25 hours of work either in the studio or elsewhere on the Peters Valley Campus, as directed by the Studio Manager or Executive Director.
Studio Assistants are responsible for housekeeping in their dormitory building. Cleaning supplies are provided. The dormitory must be clean and usable, with all personal items removed, at the conclusion of the stay.
Housing is provided at no charge during the program in a shared dormitory building. You must provide your own bed linens and towels. Meals are provided at no charge when the Peters Valley Dining Hall is open. Assistants will be responsible for their own meals at other times. The dormitory includes a fully equipped kitchen.
Each assistant will have the opportunity to participate in each workshop in their studio, subject to the needs and requirements of assisting instructors and students. Assistants will be responsible for all materials fees if they choose to participate in the workshop.
Assistants will also have access to and use of studio equipment during class downtime. Studio use is subject at all times to the requirements of the workshops.
Assistants will also have the opportunity to consign work for sale in the Peters Valley Store and at the Peters Valley booth at the annual craft fair in September.
There is no stipend or other financial remuneration for the summer studio assistantship program.
