October 2012-Peters Valley is very honored to be he recipient of the DWGNRA Volunteer Group/Partner of the Year award and the Hertzog Award for Volunteer Organizatin of the Year  a regional National Park Service award.

This award was given to Peters Valley in recognition of our superb efforts in working with the NPS as well as other partners in the park and volunteer groups in the construction of our new dining pavilion.  The NPS has identified this project as a model for cooperation among the NPS and its partners in the Park.

Also, Dick Plog received the DWGNRA award for individual volunteer of the year in recognition of his contributions to the pavilion project. As you will remember, Dick was responsible for the milling of the trees that provided the lumber for the project. Dick and his wife Gay are also longstanding and committed supporters of Peters Valley.

The Pavilion project, in addition to the immeasurable benefits it brings Peters Valley directly, is also a milestone in and tangible evidence of the excellent working relationship between PV and the NPS, a relationship that will continue to accrue dividends for PV.

The timber framed picnic pavilion where the dining tent resided for so many years was completed in July. The site preparation was done by Flatbrook Excavating and  T. Michael Moore of Wood Structures in Branchville, NJ completed the actual building process. With the help and cooperation of the National Park Service, vintage timbers were recycled from a local barn that was dismantled earlier this year as well as trees from storm damage on a local property.

This project has brought a lot of our community together which includes volunteers from the Millbrook Village namely, Dick Plog and Tom Horsefield who limbed all of the fallen trees and milled all of the lumber needed for this project. Peters Valley is very grateful for the help and support of so many local and regional volunteers.
